Care and Maintenance Suggestion
From PATIO PLACE and HATTERAS HAMMOCKS

To keep your Hatteras Hammocks furniture looking its best for years to come, we recommend some minimal care...

THE HAMMOCK ROPE
Cotton Rope Hatteras hammocks and swings are produced using 3-ply twisted rope made from all natural cotton fibers. Hatteras Hammocks manufactures all the rope used on their hammocks. Not relying on outside sources for rope allows them to carefully monitor the entire process to ensure rope of the highest quality.

Polyester Rope Hatteras Hammocks' quilted hammocks are made of acrylic fabric and provide comfort and beauty.

THE CHAIN
For maximum safety, heavy is a must. All chain used on Hatteras hammocks and swings is the largest and heaviest available in the industry. Also unique to the Hatteras Hammock is the one-piece ring and chain.

THE STAND
The industry's strongest gauge steel, milled to interlock prior to the weld, is the optimum connection engineered for all Hatteras Tri-Beam® stands. The process called The Right Connection® involves a crossbar and elbow and offers a greater welded surface and a stronger connection.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE FOR YOUR HAMMOCK
Proper care and cleaning of your hammock will help preserve and maintain its natural beauty, as well as ensure years of use. When not using your hammock, store it in a cool, dry place. If your hammock gets wet, let it air dry completely before storing. Water repellent may be useful on the rope for additional protective care. To clean your hammock, lay it on a clean, dry surface that is non-abrasive, wet it down with a hose, and use a soft brush or cloth with a mild solution of warm water and detergent, which will remove most dirt and is not harmful to the natural cotton fibers. Spot clean stains and rinse thoroughly. When you are through gently washing your hammock, rinse it thoroughly and allow it to air dry completely before using or storing. DO NOT USE ANY PRODUCT WITH BLEACH OR STRONG CHEMICALS.

Cotton Rope hammock - mild solution of soap and water in a bathtub, then air dry. Try to keep the spreader bars out of the water as much as possible.

Quilted hammock - mild solution of soap and water and use a scrub brush. Hose off completely, then air dry. Also, bleach or spot remover can be used for problem areas. For more stubborn stains, or for removing suntan oil, Hatteras Hammocks recommends a fine car upholstery cleaner. It is recommended that your hammock be kept in a dry environment.

Textile Hammock - To prevent dirt buildup which promotes mildew, clean with a solution of warm water, strong liquid detergent, and chlorine bleach (one cup to three gallons of water.) Rinse thoroughly with clear water. Allow to air dry. For stubborn stains or suntan oil, use brush tip or Kleenol 1 spot remover. Follow the directions on the container; sponge the area thoroughly with clean water, and air dry.

THE NATURAL EFFECTS
Cotton: Fibers will darken to gray color. As fibers break down, strength will be lost. If not allowed to dry thoroughly, mold or mildew will result.

Wood: Spreaders will become bleached and may turn gray. Varnish finish may wear off surface.

Insect and Animal Damage: Animals, such as squirrels, mice, dogs, and even birds, may disturb (or chew) the hammock as it hangs or in storage. Hanging a wind chime on or near the hammock may help, as the noise will usually keep animals away.

If stored over the winter in a shed, attic, or garage, protect your hammock by placing it (completely dry) in either a bag, closed container, and/or surrounded by mothballs. Cotton fiber is attractive to animals, both as food and nesting material.

CARE FOR THE STAND Steel: * You may want to disassemble your stand for more convenient storage during the cooler part of the year.

To clean your stand, simply wipe it off with a soft, damp cloth; then dry it off immediately using a clean, dry, soft towel.

If the finish on your stand gets scratched, it can be touched up easily with automotive touch-up paint; available at most auto parts stores.

Your stand has been finished with a long-lasting out-door-grade finish. To prolong the life of your stand even further, you can wax it every 3-6 months with automotive wax in the same manner that you would wax your car.

Depending on your geographical location, your stand eventually may need to be re-painted. To do so, first, prepare the surface of the finish by sanding it with very fine grit sandpaper. Then, wipe it off with a soft cloth and paint the stand with a high quality out-door-grade enamel paint, available at most hardware stores. Reduce corrosion by avoiding damage to the paint finish. Where humidity is high, some corrosion is inevitable; catch it early.

Hardwood: Wood, a natural product needs attention! In order to maintain its natural beauty, it is imperative to treat the furniture before initial use. Thereafter, maintenance treatments should be done 3-4 times per year. For continuous outdoor use, we recommend that your furniture be cleaned periodically with soap and water. If mildew or black spots occur, we suggest cleaning with a Behrs wood cleaning solution or Clorox, soap and water. Occasional touch up is required. Small cracks can be sealed with exterior wood filler and touch-up paint. Re-paint schedule: as with exterior wood trim on your house, consider re-painting your furniture as needed. Unless there is substantial peeling, a single topcoat will be all that is necessary. Use an oil base exterior enamel to coat. Drying time is 6 - 12 hours. Or you can disassemble the stand for winter storage.
